Bergen for Burma – your voice counts!

Rally to support Burma, Torgalmenningen, Saturday November 3rd, 1 p.m.

There are signs of progress in the work for democratic reform in Burma both nationally and internationally. Former Norwegian Prime minister Kjell Magne Bondevik has asked the current Minister of finance Kristin Halvorsen to withdraw investments of the Norwegian petroleum fund from oil companies operating in Burma. French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner has proposed an international fund to provide Burma economic incentives for allowing democratic reform. The Burmese regime also has communicated with Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.

The latest news from Burma reveal that protests against the military junta is back on the street. Recently 100 monks demonstrated against the military regime in the northern part of the country. They are signalling that there is more to come. Contribute to keep the attention of the world directed towards Burma by joining our demonstration the coming Saturday 1 p.m. at Torgalmenningen. There will be appeals and a quiet march around the square behind the banner of the democracy movement. Dress in something red, and make it known that also Bergen supports freedom and democracy in Burma!
